History Subject Specialists at the Library

Contributed by Harriet Lightman, Head of Research and Information Services, h-lightman@northwestern.edu (2013)

If you are doing research in History or a related field, schedule a consultation with a subject specialist.

The History Department’s liaison to the Library is Harriet Lightman, Head of Research and Information Services.  She is the first point of contact for prospective thesis writers looking to explore Northwestern’s collections and possible thesis topics.

Alternative contacts at the Library are suggested for the following subfields:

  • African History (David Easterbrook, Curator of the Herskovits Library of African Studies)
  • African American History (Kathleen Bethel, African American Studies Librarian)
  • History of Science (Cunera Buys, Librarian, Seeley G. Mudd Library for Science and Engineering)
  • East Asian History (Qunying Li, East Asian Studies Liaison)
  • Jewish History (Shoshanah Seidman, Jewish Studies Liaison)
  • Classics (Bill McHugh, Reference Collection Management Librarian and Classics Liaison)

Note: Other librarians specialize in other areas. Check at the Library's Subject Specialists web site at http://www.library.northwestern.edu/research-help/ask-librarian/subject-specialists
